The bookbox that started them all. "’Twas the Night Before Christmas" presents a meticulously crafted miniature scene that aims to capture the warmth and enchantment of the renowned holiday poem. This concept originated with my initial creation—a vintage Christmas box featuring Santa on the front, which was received for storing treasured items. Inspired by this box and the poem, I conceptualized the bookbox as a unique form of diorama.
"’Twas the Night Before Christmas" holds particular significance for me, both as a cherished read-aloud for children and as a memorable narrative. This diorama bookbox was purposefully designed to reflect the magic and comfort associated with Christmas—the quietness of falling snow, the inviting glow of a fireplace, and the anticipation of forthcoming delights. The imagery evokes the universal childhood experience of drifting to sleep with visions of sugar plums.
It is my aspiration that this booknook rekindles a sense of childhood wonder, reminiscent of Christmas Eve, when the world feels especially warm and full of promise.
The fireplace has a flickering fire and when the lights go out the candles and fire continue to glow in the dark. Included is a miniature printed book of the poem.
All secured in a wooden box, this diorama is crafted using epoxy resin, jewelry components, polymer clay, twigs, wood, and glow-in-the-dark UV resin. All materials are made or assembled by hand. The lighting incorporates LEDs and a flickering fireplace LED powered by (2) CR 2032 3V batteries; the battery compartment is easily accessible on the side of the box.
The bookbox measures 6 inches tall, 2 inches in depth and 4 inches wide. A leather strap on top makes it easy to carry, and one metal latch on the side keep the contents secure.
This is intended to be a keepsake, night light, not a toy, please keep out of reach of children under twelve (12). The small parts are glued into the diorama but can be pried away with the right amount of pressure or a suitable tool.
I created the entire diorama on my own, following my own journey of discovery.
